For the first time in the history of Georgia and the whole region, with the support of Shangri-La Casino Tbilisi and with organization of a “Youth Media Union”, the Snow Wheelchair Championship among women with disabilities was established in Bakuriani.
Women with disabilities living in Tbilisi, Rustavi, Marneuli, Gori, Zugdidi and Kutaisi competed in individual and team disciplines, including participants who were totally blind, deaf, with spinal cord injuries, amputees and with others with disabilities. For 3 days, 20 beneficiaries shared their experiences with each other. They tested wheelchairs before the championship, with the help of their professional instructors. The championship was held as follows: the first place was won by Nata Zirakashvili, a resident of Rustavi, the second place was won by Miranda Gigashvili from Surami, and the third place was won by Khatia Taturashvili, a resident of Gori municipality. As for the winners of the team discipline, the team of Nata Zirakashvili from Rustavi won here as well. The winners were awarded transitional cups and diplomas, as well as photo collages documenting these beautiful days.
The event was supported by Shangri La Casino Tbilisi. The event was organized by the “Youth Media Union” and implemented the 2006 UN Convention article 30 on the Rights of People with Disabilities, which is ratified by Georgia aiming to break down stereotypes about people with disabilities.
