Climbing to New Heights: Shangri La Tbilisi Team Conquers Roshka

On 25th of April for the first time in Georgia, the archery championship among couples – “Bakuriani-2023” was held. Beneficiaries living in different regions of Georgia took part in the championship. Each pair was represented by a disabled female and a war veteran, amputee, low vision, hearing impaired and spinal cord injured person.

The championship was held within the framework of the Olympic system and three winning couples were identified. Third Place was taken by Gela Kheladze, a veteran soldier from peacekeeping mission and Stella Andriuk with limb loss, the second place were taken by Papuna Skhulukhia, a soldier in the peacekeeping mission, and Irma Zveriashvili who has to use wheelchair, and first place winners of the championship from Kutaisi, David Akhrakhadze and his spouse Irma Partsvania, in wheelchair. Medals and diplomas were awarded to the winning couples, while the first-place winners received a transitional cup, which will be placed in Kutaisi municipality for one year.

The championship was organized by the National Archery Federation with great help of professional instructors and also disabled persons – war veteran Revaz Gorgadze and Giorgi Managadze in wheelchairs.

Thirteen employees from Shangri La Casino Tbilisi took part in Tbilisi Marathon 2026, representing the company across the 10 km race and half-marathon.

The team delivered some strong results. The fastest Shangri La runner completed the 10 km course in 52 minutes and 6 seconds, while two more colleagues crossed the finish line in 58 minutes and 6 seconds and 59 minutes and 33 seconds. One member of the team stepped up to the half-marathon, taking on the longest distance of the day.

In total, 13 Shangri La employees joined hundreds of runners at one of Tbilisi’s major annual sporting events.

For the team, however, the day was about more than finishing times. Taking part together gave colleagues a chance to challenge themselves, support one another and share an experience far removed from their usual working day.

Traditionally, Helen Keane, General Manager of Shangri La Casino Tbilisi, commented on the team’s participation:

“We are very proud of everyone who represented Shangri La at this year’s marathon. Some were chasing a time, others simply wanted to challenge themselves and complete the distance. What matters is that they took it on together and supported each other along the way.”

Participation in the Tbilisi Marathon has become a welcome tradition for the Shangri La team. After another successful race this year, there is already plenty of motivation to return to the starting line again.
